Density FAQ: How to Choose Your Crochet Bundle Count

Density FAQ: How to Choose Your Crochet Bundle Count

New to crochet braids — or unsure why your last install felt too full or too sparse? This guide breaks down how bundle count, twist count, and length work together so you can shop with confidence.

What is a "bundle" and how many twists are in one?

Each bundle (also called a pack) comes with 60–64 pre-looped twists. The twists are lightweight, tangle-free, and pre-looped for quick installation — no extra knotting required.

What's the difference between a 1-Bundle and a 5-Bundle Kit?

Option Twists included Best for
1 Bundle ~60–64 twists fill-ins, try-before-you-commit, or adding volume to an existing style
5-Bundle Kit ~300–320 twists Full-head installs — this is the amount shown on our models in most product photos

Our product photos show models wearing 5–6 bundles. A 5-Bundle Kit is designed to cover a full head for most people.

What lengths do you carry?

Lengths vary slightly by style, but our core range is:

  • 8" – Very short, right at your ears
  • 10" – Short and neat (Bob Length)
  • 12" – Medium length (our most popular; models are often photographed in this length)
  • 14" – Medium-long
  • 16" – Long
  • 20" – Extra long (available on select styles)

The YankyLush Human Hair Bulk Extensions also come in 12” 14” 16” 18" 20” and 22" for even more length flexibility.

How does bundle count affect fullness?

More bundles = more twists = more coverage and volume. Here's a practical way to think about it:

  • 1 Bundle (~60–64 twists): Covers a section of the head. Great for try-outs or touch-ups.
  • 3 Bundles (~180–192 twists): Can complete a crown section (perfect for shaved sides style
  • 5 Bundles (~300–320 twists): Our recommended amount for a full-coverage, model-like result on most head sizes.
  • 6 Bundles (~360–384 twists): Some of our models with larger head circumferences or who prefer extra fullness install 6 bundles

Tip: If you've ever felt that a crochet install looked "too much" or bulky, it's often because more packs were used than needed for your head size or parting pattern — not a product defect. Starting with a 5-Bundle Kit and adjusting from there is the best approach.

I'm a first-time buyer. How many bundles should I order?

Start with a 5-Bundle Kit. It's the amount we use in our product photography and is suited for most full-head installs. If you find you have twists left over after installation, that's perfectly normal — you can save them for fill-ins or a refresh later.

If you're experimenting with a new color or style for the first time, ordering 1 Bundle first is a low-commitment way to check the color match and texture before committing to a full kit.

Does length affect how full the style looks?

Yes. Longer twists naturally have more visual weight and movement, which can make a style appear fuller even with the same bundle count. Shorter lengths (8"–10") tend to look neater and more compact. If fullness is your priority, pairing a longer length with 5–6 bundles will give the most dramatic result.

What about the YankyLush Bulk Extensions — how many packs do I need?

The YankyLush Human Hair Bulk Extensions are sold by weight (47–52 grams per pack) rather than by twist count. General guidance:

  • 3 Packs can complete a head
  • 5 Packs are recommended for a full, dense look

These are ideal for braids, twists, locs, and other styles where you want to use loose bulk hair rather than pre-made twist units.
